Dana Peak Trail Run

This was my birthday race.  It’s not the birthday outcome I expected, but this course gave me lessons and plenty to think about for my upcoming A race.  The DNF streak continues, as I attempted the Dana Peak 100k yesterday and missed the cutoff for the final 20k loop by just 5 minutes.

I’m okay with it. The course was tough, steep, technical, and relentlessly hilly.  With the last-minute changes, the hardest climbs landed right in the repeated loops, which made it even more punishing.  At times, I had flashbacks to Rat Jaw from BFC just two weeks ago.

I signed up because I needed one last long-distance effort before my A-race in three weeks, and it felt better to do it in a supported race setting.  Plus, it fell on my birthday weekend, so I called it my birthday race.  In the end I recorded 51.75 miles, 51 for my 51st.

Even though I didn’t finish, the experience was still meaningful.  Friends came out to run their own distances, pace, and crew me.  Ann who wasnt feeling well, came out to pace as she previously committed, and I really appreciate her.  Alexis finished her first 50k race, huge congrats to her!

Now it’s really time to rest and recover. I’m not feeling 100% confident heading into Javelina in three weeks, but I’ll show up and do my best.
